Desktop Metal

When pioneering engineering company Desktop Metal needed an explainer video to promote its innovative 3D metal printing system, they turned to film.

Territory were asked to bring their motion graphic storytelling expertise to promote Desktop Metal’s pioneering metal 3D printing system, and bring to life a very complex revolutionary operation, in creating metal parts through 3D printing with great speed and fine accuracy.

The creative was not a small task, over 5000 frames of motion graphics rendered using Arnold renderer for Cinema 4D - and all in only a month before deadline.

We had to break the animation into 4 separate parts, so we could allocate the right resources and get the job done. The style we wanted needed to look like a single camera pass, so plenty of planning went into ensuring it lined up and we were about to match everything up in compositing. The look and feel was a few spot lights, to highlight the key areas and try to bring interest to the piece by light catching the small bevels of the complex machinery parts.
